Registry Operator Status Codes (RRP - Registry Registrar Protocol) Operator for .com/.net: gptservers.net (Verisign Global Registry)

  • ACTIVE: Set by the registry. The domain can be modified by the registrar, renewed, and included in the DNS zone if delegated to at least one name server. A domain must be in this status to be transferred between registrars.
  • REGISTRY-LOCK: Set by the registry. The domain cannot be modified or deleted by the registrar until the registry removes this status. The domain can be renewed and included in the zone if delegated to at least one name server.
  • REGISTRAR-LOCK: Set by the sponsoring registrar. The domain cannot be modified or deleted until the registrar removes this status. The domain can be renewed and included in the DNS zone.
  • REGISTRY-HOLD: Set by the registry. The domain cannot be modified or deleted by the registrar until the registry removes this status. The domain can be renewed but will not be included in the DNS zone.
  • REGISTRAR-HOLD: Set by the sponsoring registrar. The domain cannot be modified or deleted until the registrar removes this status. The domain can be renewed but will not be included in the DNS zone.
  • REDEMPTIONPERIOD: Set by the registry when a registrar requests deletion of a domain registered for more than 5 days (domains deleted within 5 days of registration are removed immediately). The domain is excluded from the DNS zone and cannot be modified or purged, only restored. Other registrar requests are rejected. This status lasts up to 30 days.
  • PENDINGRESTORE: Set by the registry when a registrar requests restoration of a domain in REDEMPTIONPERIOD. The domain is included in the DNS zone, but registrar requests to modify or update it are rejected. The registrar must provide restoration documentation within 7 days, or the domain reverts to REDEMPTIONPERIOD. If documentation is provided within 7 days, the domain status changes to ACTIVE.
  • PENDINGDELETE: Set by the registry after a domain in REDEMPTIONPERIOD is not restored. The domain is excluded from the DNS zone, and all registrar requests to modify or update it are rejected. The domain is purged from the registry database after 5 days.

EPP Domain Status Definitions Domains typically operate with a status of "OK" or "Active." Other statuses indicate pending actions or restrictions. A domain must have an "OK" status to be transferable.

  • OK: The standard status for a domain, indicating it is fully operational with no pending actions or restrictions.
  • New: The default status for a newly created domain. The domain can be modified unless locked.
  • Active: The domain can be modified and is included in the DNS zone file for resolution.
  • Locked: The domain cannot be transferred, renewed, or deleted, though its status can be changed. Hierarchical or associated objects cannot be added or removed. Domains in disputes, such as Sunrise, may be locked per registry policies.
  • Hold: The domain is not included in the DNS zone for resolution. Domains without at least two name servers may be placed on Hold; submit name server data through your registrar to resolve this.
  • pendingTransfer: A transfer request is pending for the domain. It cannot be renewed, deleted, or updated until the transfer is complete.
  • pendingDelete: A deletion request has been received, and the domain is removed from the DNS zone but not yet purged from the registry database. It cannot be renewed, deleted, transferred, or updated in this state.
  • clientHold: Set by the registrar, preventing the domain from being included in the DNS zone for resolution.
  • clientLock: Set by the registrar, preventing transfers, renewals, deletions, or updates. The status can be changed via an update command. Hierarchical or associated objects cannot be added or removed.
