IMPORTANT: New ICANN RAA email verification requirements for 2014 Print

  • 0

ICANN, the organization overseeing domain name registration, updated the Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) in 2014, mandating that all registrars verify email addresses whenever a domain is registered, transferred, or has its contact information updated.

As a result, when you update the WHOIS contact email for a domain, you’ll receive an "RAA email verification" email at the new address. You must click the verification link in this email, or your domain risks deactivation within 15 days.

This requirement also affects the domain consolidation efforts we’ve been undertaking over the past year. Each transfer to our new primary registrar now requires verification of contact information. We strongly recommend reviewing your contact details to ensure accuracy and avoid unexpected domain suspensions.

Many clients have mistaken these "RAA email verification" messages for spam, either ignoring them or marking them as such. This is highly inadvisable, as failing to verify your email will lead to domain suspension.

Details of the email verification requirements are outlined in the "WHOIS Accuracy Program Specification" section of the updated RAA, available on ICANN’s website at: http://www.icann.org/en/resources/registrars/raa/approved-with-specs-27jun13-en.htm
